The Upside Down Poem – Straightened

The mind struggles
To keep track – indeed
To keep consciousness
The head
spins.
Perception reels.
Slowly, at full speed,
The mind is churned.
The heat
helps
Not the mind, but
the fatigue.
Physically relaxed,
Mentally fatigued.
Eight weary souls.
St. George and King Arthur,
Robert the Bruce,
Chengiz Khan, even
the terrible Ivan.
None of them, not
a single soul, not
a single man-jack of them,
had ever to face such
Ordeals.
